She Wolves: Unleashed

I'm Amber Lewis - a Classics PhD student, a professional historical nerd, and someone who spends far too much time thinking about Roman women who were described, judged, and occasionally demonised by men who absolutely hated them.

And that’s kind of the point of this podcast.

Because most of what we “know” about women in ancient history doesn’t come from women at all — it comes from elite Roman men with agendas, grudges, and a deep, existential fear of female ambition.  What we get in our sources aren’t women so much as characters: stereotypes, fantasies, warnings.

So She Wolves is about taking those women — the villains, the monsters, the so-called predators — and asking a very annoying question:

What happens if we stop taking Roman men at their word?
